A beach wheelchair for WHISH disabled children
We did it
On 23rd July 2020 we successfully raised £635 with 30 supporters in 41 days

To buy a floating Beach Wheelchair. To enable kids with disabilities to enjoy the beach and go in the sea, the same as their friends.

New stretch target

To also buy an all terrain wheelchair, to go into the woods and other areas where a normal wheelchair would struggle.

Many of the children we support have restricted mobility and co-ordination, some are wheelchair users.

At the moment they cannot use the beach & go into the sea like their friends and family.

Using the floating wheelchair will enhance the health and well-being of participants, and improve confidence and self esteem. They will be improving their balance and coordination, and having fun together.

It will give  children with disabilities  an opportunity to  access the beach and sea, an activity most children can take for granted.

The Whitby & Ryedale Disability Action Group  will store, service & maintain the wheelchair for WHISH, free of charge. They would also operate a booking system,  so that any disabled children coming to Whitby for a holiday, would also be able to book the wheelchair.
