New stretch target

We would work with our service users to develop new and innovative projects which are service user led.  At the moment we working with volunteers to develop a service that works with male careers who can often feel isolated.

Blessing in Disguise is a registered Children’s charity. We are a socially responsible organisation giving support via our free service for the whole family, providing a range of essential equipment such as special needs wheelchairs, prams, walkers, medical and sensory equipment, communication aid etc., planned activities, themed breaks and promoting and providing social and recreational opportunities for children and young adults with a life shortening illnesses, disabilities or who are at a disadvantage because of their situation. We tackle inequalities and fill the gaps in services which aren’t being met due to funding cuts, by working closely with hospitals, hospices, and other charities.

Blessing in Disguise set up in November 2013 as a not-for-profit company. Within 2 years of starting, we grew into a small charity receiving charitable status on 31st March 2015. Each year the charity has increased the number of people it supports by tenfold.

Our aims are to enrich the lives of disadvantaged, disabled children and young people covering the whole of Greater Manchester and UK.

We actively encourage and support children, young adults to have the confidence to be independent and to recognise their ability, not their disability, promoting social inclusion and building social skills. Through personal experience, we know that it can often be difficult for other family members, who perhaps, unfortunately, miss out.   We actively go the extra mile to seek new ideas and professional input, whilst striving to provide the best services we possibly can.

The feedback we receive from our services and events is amazing and the evidence that each is a huge success. (See our website and Facebook www.blessingsindisguise.co.uk www.facebook.com/BlessingsInDisguise.UK )

Our community of families has increased in numbers from 0 to over 3000 people that we now support in less than 6 years which is a massive achievement. We measure and monitor feedback and have regular input from families with regards to new services and events that we can offer. We have increased the number of events that we provide in a year due to popular demand and over subscription. We use social media to share our success stories and the feedback and popularity has increased massively.

We believe that with the support of Aviva Community Fund we have the potential to increase the number of vulnerable people that we support.  Throughout 2018 the charity provided nearly approximately £7500 worth of specialist equipment to the community and families with disabled children, from profile beds and mattress’s for terminally ill children to postural support chairs for children who suffers with cerebral palsy and Communication Aids for children who are non-verbal.

Providing these pieces of equipment to the community and families will improve the social isolation these families face every day due to their disabilities, enable not disable. The equipment provided by Blessing in Disguise is donated to support the child free of charge. Once the equipment is no longer required it should be offered back to Blessing in Disguise for another child to use.
