Copmanthorpe Scouts need a new minibus, so we can go on more adventures in our great outdoors!

by 1st Copmanthorpe Scout Group in Copmanthorpe, England, United Kingdom

1st Copmanthorpe Scout Group are a vibrant bunch of boys and girls who love getting out and about to celebrate our wonderful outdoors.

We are a charitable organisation, registered charity number 1052342.

We are lucky enough to have some fabulous volunteer leaders, who spend hours of their time each week planning, organising and leading activities such as archery, winter camping, water sports, model building, orienteering, chess competitions, first aid courses, and even international jamborees.

Due to the dedication of our leaders, our Scout Group has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, and grown in size to cater for over 170 young people, with more on the waiting list.

We would love to be able to do more for our young people, and to offer more support for children who have additional needs and support. At the moment, our minibus only carries 17 young people at a time, and is not accessible for all children. We are reliant on friends of the group to provide transport to venues over an hour away. We want to encourage our young people, from Beavers aged 6 up to Explorers aged 18, to gain responsibility and independence, by taking them away without relying on their parents. To do this, we would love to have funding for a new minibus, with additional accessibility features, so that we can take groups of children away on more adventures.

In a world where young people are increasingly scapegoated for the ills of a community, and where often there is little on offer to entertain and engage them, we believe that the opportunities provided by Scouting are unique. Scouting offers a set of values and a way of life which encourages self-reliance, team building, an active lifestyle, taking on new challenges and celebrating all achievements. We want to be able to offer all the young people in our village the opportunity to take part in all our activities, without imposing limits and barriers.

Scouting is not just an hour a week; it is a way of life that will produce happier, healthier adults at the end of their journey through our Group. A new, accessible minibus would be the icing on the cake, to help us achieve our aims.

If you feel able to offer us any support, we would be so grateful for any donations you are able to make to our Minibus Totalizer.
