Heat the Hut, to add heaters to the building
We did it
On 15th July 2020 we successfully raised £3,160 with 78 supporters in 134 days

To install heating to the ground floor changing area, meeting rooms, sadly when the building was built our budget couldn't stretch that far!

New stretch target

we could also then install the safety cages around the heaters that we would also need in the long term, we could also add much needed benches and storage to the changing rooms, which currently have none.

We are a well established scout group, that have been supporting young people in our area for over 60 years now, 7 years ago we moved to our new building at Testwood lakes after years of fundraising (in fact we still are paying for it), but sadly our funds ran short when it came to heating anywhere apart from the main hall!.

So we have no heating to the ground floor at all, the changing rooms for our boating activities as based down here and it can get very chilling in the cold seasons, we also have a meeting room upstairs that we would use more if we didn't fear turning into a ice block in the winter when using.

We also wish to add the heating not only for the obvious reason of keeping it warm, but not having heating downstairs is causing other issues with fittings, like the specialist flooring as the extreme cold temperatures means it shrinks away from the walls, the heating would really help with us maintaining the fantastic building we worked so hard for to a decent level.

As well as all of the above, our excellent facilities are used by Testwood Lakes Sailabilty, that offers boating experience to a vast array of people, partially those living with a wide range of disabilities (mental and physical), again heating in the changing area will really help them as well, even their volunteers who man the check in will benefit.

We are a registered Charity and everyone who helps is a volunteer giving back to help other improve and being able to add heating to these areas will benefit the children who attend scouts, the sailors who use the lakes and all the leaders who help out.

Sadly we have been targets of vandalism over the lockdown period, and due to lock down all our own fundraising methods have stopped, so this is now even more important to us to raise this money. As we also now need to raise money to fix vandalised boats and windows as well :)

Got an idea like this?
