A brighter future - community wellbeing café
Derby City Mission (DCM) are excited to tell you about our brand new community building in Derby City. This huge space will welcome in the whole community for local clubs and activities to run from, as well as for us to run and expand much needed services.
Since Covid-19 the demand for our Foodbank has grown by 79%, demand for our debt and benefit advice has grown by 34%. We've also supported over 140 homeless people during lockdown and continued to provide food and water for rough sleepers on the streets when all the shops were shut.
In the winter we operated nightshelters across Derby City, Chesterfield and Mansfield and in Derby City we operate a 24/7 365 Safe Space for homeless people to rest and recover.
We're busy planning for the future and ensuring that we can continue to support people in crisis beyond Covid-19. The legacies of this terrible disease are universally understood to be debt, mental health and unemployment. It is unfortunately likely that the knock on impacts of loss of income will be more people just like you and me, who may struggle with debt, paying priority bills and could become homeless.
We need your help to help us develop a new Wellbeing Community Café where people can come and relax and make new friends over delicious food. The Café will connect people and communities and be a 'gateway' to finding out about local activities, volunteering opportunities, local services and of DCM's services.
The café will provide work placement opportunities for homeless people too. This will help boost their self esteem and confidence, alleviate isolation and loneliness as well as help them secure future paid work.
The money raised from this appeal will help pay for the installation of a brand new café and the funds will pay for tables, chairs, decoration, furnishing, screens.
