Letham4All is a small innovative and inclusive local charity working in the North Perth city area to help improve the health and well being of the community . We run the exciting Letham Community Hub and work with all members of the community. During the COVID 19 pandemic we tried to keep in touch with people and from this we learned about some of the issues and concerns held by older people in our community. The constant news information about the vulnerability of older people to COVID 19 has made some our community feel scared and isolated. Loneliness and worries about 'coming back out' were phrases we heard often and we want to develop some activities in the North Perth area to enable people to re-gain their confidence , help them reconnect in and with their community and help them get more physically active.
To do this we want to employ part time staff to plan and deliver social events and networks to bring people together and also empower volunteers to take on this role in the future. At the same time we would employ specialist fitness workers to deliver a range of fun activities to help improve fitness levels and wellbeing of our older community. We also learnt that many of our older community have difficulties using mobile phones and tablets . They have lost out in taking part in online social activities and struggled to arrange online shopping, we want to help them learn new digital skills .
This funding would help our small charity make a huge difference to older people in Perth It would make help it become stronger by develop local networks of support and improve the quality of life for many older people. Getting old can be an isolating experience , and this has been made worse by the COVID 19 pandemic . As we emerge out of lock down , we want our older community to feel safe and welcome to be back in the community .
