Quotes from young people using Base 51:
"Without the Base 51 Youth Club I would go back to how I was before, causing trouble"
"Base 51 is my safe place where I can be myself"
"It's the only place that has ever supported me, it's like a family"
Base 51 is Nottingham’s and Nottinghamshire's leading charity for young people, they support 11-25 year olds from across the area. Base 51 have been supporting young people since 1993 and have worked with over 50,000 of the city and county's most vulnerable.
Base 51 provide a ‘safe place where change begins’ for young people; we focus on early intervention and offer counselling, trauma support (including exploitation, violent crime, modern slavery and sexual abuse), the only LGBTQIA+ peer support group in the area and a youth club with a dance studio and a recording studio. We also provide practical support with a kitchen, food parcels, gym, showers, laundry and a clothes bank - services that are in high demand due to the cost of living crisis.
We work with the young people who have been through trauma such as domestic abuse and knife crime, those that are at risk of exploitation and gangs, and provide a safe place for young people to be themselves, stay off the streets and recieve a hot meal in a warm haven.
The funds raised would be spent on providing Youth Services for vulnerable young people.
The Youth Club is currently open 3.30-8pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday. It's completely free and young people all recieve a hot meal. We have qualified Youth Workers with the young people at all times and we provide a 'safe place' in the City. We also help with sessions about budgeting, finances, cooking on a budget, healthy relationships, internet safety and more.
There are over 17,500 children living in poverty in Nottingham, 54 of the wards rank in the top 10% of the most deprived in the country and Nottingham is 6th worst out of 340 areas in the ONS Health Index; Nottingham also sadly ranks the worst city in the UK for young people (Youth Opportunities Index) - so the young people of the City and County are desperate for support.
Disclaimer: If we don't raise the money we hope to, we will use the funds raised to provide alternative services to young people.
