Thank you to Aviva for doubling individual donations up to £250 for our church solar panel project.
Mission and Project: As part of our mission to safeguard the environment we are planning to install solar panels on the southside flat church roof, hidden from view; the subsequent reduction in carbon emissions is estimated to be 1,931 kg CO2 each year which is equivalent to the emissions of a car journey of 6897 miles.
The southside modern ridged roof is ideal; the panels will not be seen even from the town walls.
Fundraising: Our Lent Walk for the Environment - the Northumberland Coastal Path - 60 miles in 6 weeks - aims to raise the final £10,000 needed to cover the project cost. £18,000 has been raised through grants and fundraising events. Everyone in the community is invited to join the walk and/or to support through donating.
Carbon Neutral Aim: The church aims to be carbon neutral by 2030, alongside increasing the biodiversity in the beautiful churchyard which is closed for burials but very much alive for flora and fauna.
Volunteers within the church, local schools and wildlife groups have helped increase the carbon capture and biodiversity in the churchyard with planting, wilding, wildlife homes and bee hives, leading to the achievement of an A Rocha Bronze Award.

The Church: The most northerly church in England, Holy Trinity and St Mary’s, Berwick Parish Church serves the community of Berwick upon Tweed and beyond - with the Church and Parish Centre being open and used 365 days of the year.
A Grade 1 listed building, and one of the few churches built in the time of Cromwell, it attracts visitors throughout the year from near and far. Neither the panels nor the battery storage will be visible; the beauty of the church will remain for all to experience and enjoy.
The upkeep of the church and churchyard is carried out through the work of volunteers and funded solely by voluntary giving. The costs of the carbon neutral project are being met through voluntary giving, grants and fundraising events. Please support if you can.
