Who are we ?
R-evolution started October 2014, becoming a UK registered charity 6th January 2015. The concept began by giving prison workers an opportunity to gain cycle mechanic training by working on local donors' bikes to refurbish them, which would then be distributed into the community. This gave the prisoners a sense of 'giving back' to their communities whilst developing skills to help them get back into employment.
Since then, we have expanded into both cycle and horticulture training for the public; with community workshops in Hull, East Riding, North and North East Lincolnshire. Our purple gazebo and team of mechanics and volunteers can often be spotted all around the Humber and even up to Bridlington, helping people get back into cycling through free cycle repairs, loans and training.
What do we do for the Community ?
Last year though our various projects and volunteer support we achieved the below:
- 44 active volunteers involved in our projects
- 3883 volunteer hours given from regular volunteers
- 8330 individual members of the public engaged in our projects
- 488 people being loaned a bike
- 5995 people having their bikes repaired and being kept on the road
- 332 refurbished bike sales
- 220 people partaking in guided rides
- 42 people received City and Guilds regulated qualifications in Cycle Mechanics and Practical Horticulture with 9 still progressing with higher level qualifications.
- 192 people received attendance certificates for cycle maintenance and horticulture
What are we doing with the crowdfunder funding ?
Your donations will enable us to provide training courses, fostering valuable skills and creating pathways to volunteering opportunities for the community. Additionally, it will empower our amazing volunteers to carry out projects, such as partnering with local schools and community organisations to donate bicycles to children who otherwise wouldn't have access, spreading joy and promoting healthy lifestyles. As well as enabling us to offer our Dr. Bikes service, ensuring that bikes are safe for the road and accessible to all members of our community.
From organising community bike rides to conducting workshops in cycle maintenance and horticulture, every project we undertake is driven by a goal: to make a positive impact on the lives of those around us. Your contributions not only support this but also ensure the continuity of our horticulture training program in Normanby. By sustaining this initiative, you provide individuals with valuable skills and pathways for personal growth.
We can't do it alone. Your donation to our crowdfunding campaign directly funds projects benefiting our community, enabling our volunteers to carry out hands-on workshops and horticulture training. Help us make a difference!
How your donation will be spent ?
The donations will cover volunteer expenses for travel, training, refreshments, rewards and DBS checks. Volunteers are vital to the projects we run in our local communities and this funding helps to support them.
For every £1 donated Aviva Community Fund will match this to double your donation, plus if you can add Gift Aid every £1 becomes £2.20!
How can you help ?
There are a couple of simple ways to help us reach our target:
1. Make a donation. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
