I'm supporting Parkinson's UK to fund research, vital support services, and campaigns for better health and care for those affected.

Introduction

This year, I am taking on three incredible challenges in three months: running the Manchester Marathon (27th April), walking the 3 Yorkshire Peaks (10th May), and finally completing my first 100km Ultra Challenge (24-hour march) with 24 of my Aviva Claims Supply Chain colleagues (Sat 28th June).

Why

Many people have asked why I am taking on these challenges, and there have been moments in training when I've questioned myself too! However, the overriding reasons are simple: I am lucky enough to be fit and able to when many others aren't. I am also passionate about supporting Parkinson's UK because of the incredible work they do in funding ground breaking research, providing life-changing support services, and campaigning for better health and care for those affected by Parkinson's disease. Knowing that my efforts, along with your support, can make a real difference in the lives of those living with this condition keeps me motivated and determined to complete these challenges, whatever it takes.

Final Event - Ultra Challenge - Aviva Claims Supply Chain

The Peak District Ultra Challenge is no small feat. It will test our team's endurance, strength, teamwork, and determination as we cover a significant distance across one of the UK's most beautiful national parks. Participants can choose from various distances, including 25km, 50km, 75km, and the full continuous 100km, each with its own set of challenges and elevations. The full 100km route features a tough and varied figure-of-eight course through Derbyshire’s finest scenery, with a total climb of 2150m. This year, I will be challenging myself and taking part in the Ultra March® option to really make it TOUGH! This option is designed to walk (no jogging or running allowed) and achieve a sub-24-hour for the 100km distance. The overall Challenge is open to participants to walk, jog, or run the course, making it as inclusive as possible and accessible to a wider range of fitness levels. 25 of my team have volunteered to take part in the event on Saturday 28th June.

Parkinson's UK

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. In the UK, around 153,000 people are currently living with Parkinson's disease. This number is expected to increase to approximately 172,000 by 2030 due to population growth and ageing. Every hour, two more people are diagnosed with Parkinson's. It can have a profound impact on the lives of those diagnosed, as well as their families and friends. Parkinson's UK is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those affected by the condition through research, support, and advocacy. This cause is particularly poignant because two members of our team, including our Team captain, Nick Mayhew, recently lost a close family member who had been living with Parkinson's for several years.
