The Dig Deep Allotment Project has turned a piece of derelict land into a growing oasis in the middle of a housing estate. When ASCEND took it over, it was extremely overgrown and was subject to fly tipping. More than 10 years later, the space is regularly tended by a group of up to 20 volunteers - who have put in more than 50,000 hours to turn it into a place of cultivation, growing fruit and vegetables for the local Food bank and encouraging the local wildlife to call it their home. ASCEND also runs gardening and craft courses from the site. ASCEND would like to raise at least £1500 to create a sensory garden, with the help of a Horticultural Therapist, where volunteers and community members can sit and take time out from the day in restful surroundings.
