Support Displaced People in Action (DPIA) and Transform Lives

At Displaced People in Action (DPIA), we are dedicated to helping asylum seekers and refugees in Wales rebuild their lives, integrate into communities, and achieve independence. Through our impactful programs and initiatives, we are making a real difference.

Our Wales Asylum Seeking and Refugee Doctors and Dentists (WARD) group has been instrumental in supporting refugee doctors and dentists to continue their careers in the UK. To date, 145 professionals have gained General Medical Council (GMC) registration, with 131 holding active licenses to practice. This program not only offers significant monetary and human resource savings for the NHS but also enhances diversity within the healthcare system. The diverse backgrounds and global clinical experience of these professionals lead to higher patient satisfaction and improved care.

Through our resettlement schemes, DPIA has helped over 500 refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, and Ukraine integrate into their new communities across Wales. We provide personalised support to help them navigate the challenges of starting a new life and becoming active members of society.

DPIA also amplifies the voices of asylum seekers and refugees, enabling them to express their needs and concerns through advocacy forums. We deliver awareness training to decision-makers, frontline staff, and public bodies, equipping them with a greater understanding of the challenges asylum seekers face. This ensures that services are better tailored to address the complex needs of these individuals.

For newly arrived asylum seekers, DPIA offers cultural orientation and health literacy sessions through our Shaping My Future Project. These sessions improve their understanding of Welsh and UK customs, while educating them on how to access vital services, including healthcare. We have supported over 400 asylum seekers, helping them envision and work toward brighter futures.

Similarly, our Children and Young Persons Project has enriched the lives of thousands of children and young people by addressing their social, emotional, and recreational needs. Through this work, we help children make friends, learn new skills, and experience joy through recreational activities and outings, fostering both happiness and personal growth.

Your support makes all this possible. By donating to DPIA, you contribute to the empowerment of asylum seekers and refugees, enabling them to thrive and build fulfilling lives in Wales. Together, we can create a more inclusive, diverse, and compassionate Wales.

Donate today to help us continue this vital work and transform lives.
