"Since I was young I've been an avid superhero fan, and wanted to change the world and make it a better place. Doing this app was a really good way for me to visualise and make it a reality". Sarvesh, a year 9 student shared his experiences of taking an Apps for Good course. He is one of over 30,000 young people who have been inspired Apps for Good in the last academic year.

Apps for Good is an educational charity that empowers young people to create technology solutions for real-world problems. Through our courses, students learn to design and develop app prototypes that address issues like climate change, issues that are important to them in their own communities. The courses foster skills in coding, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship, while encouraging teamwork and creativity.

Apps for Good partners with schools, educators, and volunteer tech professionals to provide free courses for teachers, encouragement, feedback, role-modelling and support for students. We focus on bridging the gap between education and the tech industry, equipping young people with the  digital skills needed for future careers.

The need for our Innovate for Climate Change course has never been greater. The Department for Education (DfE) aims for all schools to have a School Sustainability Lead and a Climate Action Plan by 2025. Yet, a recent study found that school leavers have a "very poor" understanding of climate change, highlighting the urgent need for stronger climate education and clearer pathways into green careers.

The challenge extends beyond climate literacy. Disadvantaged students are 44% less likely to pursue STEM at Level 3, and girls face a 42% lower chance than their peers. Even in the workforce, only 9% of tech employees come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds—compared to 39% of the UK population.

This lack of opportunity and representation makes our mission even more crucial. Our impact data from last year proves ICC is making a difference—73% of students felt more confident using tech to tackle climate change, and 75% were inspired to take action. By empowering young people with digital skills and climate knowledge, we’re creating a future where every student has the chance to drive real change—no matter their background.

By promoting innovation and tech for good, Apps for Good enables the next generation to use technology not just as consumers, but as creators of solutions that have a positive social impact. Through our projects we aim to inspire change and prepare young people for a sustainable future.

£22 will inspire a young person living in challenging circumstances
Young people are motivated by solving problems they care about, and no issue is bigger than climate change. To combat the digital divide, we teach how technology can have a positive impact and support students to design relevant tech products that will change their world for the better.

“This has definitely made me realise I have a good passion for software engineering, especially to further climate change efforts. So in the future, I'd definitely like a job where I can  help the cause even further with my ability to code etc. So maybe I could make an app in the future which actually works to its full extent, to help people change their habits for the better.”  Akshara, Student at Chiltern Academy, Luton.
