Preserving the Beauty of Fairhaven: Join Us in Caring for the UK's Largest Candelabra Primula Collection

Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden is home to the largest collection of candelabra primulas in the UK, boasting 20,000 vibrant blooms. This stunning display of nature's beauty is not just a spectacle for visitors but also a precious resource we strive to preserve, even as we face increasing challenges due to climate change. However, maintaining such a unique collection requires significant effort, and with a small team and limited income, we depend heavily on volunteers like you.

Our Mission

At Fairhaven, our mission is to create a serene, welcoming space where people can connect with nature. To continue offering this experience, we need help with the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of our gardens. By joining our volunteer team, you will directly support the conservation of this remarkable collection and help sustain the garden for future generations to enjoy.

What We Do

We invite volunteers to assist us with a range of light gardening tasks:

  • Planting & Weeding: Help us maintain the beauty of our primulas and other plants.
  • General Upkeep: Keep the grounds clean and well-maintained so they remain inviting for everyone.

These activities are flexible, allowing volunteers to work at their own pace while enjoying the peace and tranquility of our beautiful gardens.

Why Volunteer with Us?

Volunteering at Fairhaven offers more than just the satisfaction of contributing to a good cause:

  • Connect with Nature: Spending time outdoors can boost mental well-being and reduce stress.
  • Build Camaraderie: Strengthen relationships and team dynamics through shared experiences in a serene environment.
  • Enjoy a Rewarding Experience: There's nothing quite like the joy of seeing your efforts blossom—literally!

Scheduling & Group Size

We welcome volunteers on weekdays and select weekends. Let us know your preferred date, and we’ll work to accommodate your schedule. Whether you're a solo volunteer or part of a larger group, we have opportunities for everyone. Groups of all sizes can participate, with a maximum ratio of five volunteers per one qualified Fairhaven gardener for guidance and support.

What You’ll Need

To ensure you're comfortable and ready to help, we recommend:

  • Comfortable Clothing & Sturdy Shoes: Dress for the outdoors and the task at hand.
  • Personal Gardening Gloves or Tools (Optional): While we provide the necessary tools, feel free to bring your own if you'd like.

Additional Perks

For volunteers working six hours or more, we provide light refreshments and a complimentary lunch. This is our small way of saying thank you for your time and effort in preserving our gardens. Plenty of free parking available.
