Door 84 has launched the 'Footsteps for Food' campaign, which is aiming to raise vital funds to continue the delivery of one of it's key services.

Why have Door 84 launched the campaign?

Door 84 is a York-based local charity that delivers a range of provision for children, young people, adults and families. The funds raised by the 'Footsteps for Food' will directly support the Community Café.

The Community Café runs on a weekly basis, and gives community members the opportunity to access both free and discounted food, grab a hot drink and socialise with one another, and also speak to professionals from other services, including City of York Council and our local councillors.

To make sure everyone who attends has access to affordable food, Door 84 purchases produce from national charity 'FareShare'. This produce is then made available to York-based families through our Community Café.

To sustain this provision, Door 84 relies on fundraising and donations, and the money raised by the 'Footsteps for Food' campaign will go towards the continuation of Door 84's Community Café. Our target of £3500 would mean we could purchase 12 months worth of produce to distribute to the community across York.

As part of the campaign, fundraisers are getting active to try and reach the goal of £3500. So far, there are two main activities (more details below!). However, if you would like to get involved, please do get in touch!

Footsteps for Food - Part 1

The first stage of the Footsteps for Food campaign will see Door 84 taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge!

This challenge is not for the faint-hearted. It consists of a 24-mile round trip with 1585m of ascent, taking in the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, in under 12 hours.

Taking on the challenge is Sue Kemp, Door 84’s part-time fundraiser. “I have done this challenge before but it was over 30 years ago so my memory of it is hazy to say the least, and my body is considerably more creaky than it was then. Door 84 is a great charity – the team are all really committed and they go out of their way to make everyone welcome and support them in any way they can. Food is a key part of what they offer, it is a means of bringing people together and creates opportunities for friendships to be formed, reduces social isolation and provides relief for individuals and families who are struggling for any number of reasons. Having been involved in the charity for about 18 months I wanted to do something individually to help raise funds as I know how much they are needed. I hope that by taking on this challenge people will support me by donating, even the smallest amount will help us get closer to our target.”

What is Match Funding?

For the first six weeks of the campaign, the Aviva Community Fund are matching any donations to Footsteps for Food! This means any donation (up to £250) made before 29th April 2025 will be doubled!
