Have you got 2 minutes?
The 2 Minute movement all started with a single hashtag in 2013 when the Founder of the charity took to social media to help clear enormous amounts of plastic that had washed up on his local Cornish beach following a particuarly bad storm.
The #2MinuteBeachClean hashtag quickly gained momentum and offered the opportunity for communities to come together and make a huge impact by everyone playing their part and cleaning up, 2 minutes at a time.
The hashtag has now been shared over 200,000 times and the 2 Minute Foundation has continuted to build on its social media success by launching further campaigns including #2MinuteLitterPick, #2MinuteSolution and #2MinutesOfPositivity to reach and inspire communities, providing tools and encouragement.
We estimate that since 2013, local communities have come together and helped prevent over 400 tonnes of plastic from entering the ocean.
As well as taking part in beach cleans and raising vital awareness, our fantastic supporters have helped us grow our network of clean up stations and deliver our Beach School sessions in Bude.
We now have a network of over 1200 clean up stations around the UK. We know the impact they have as we've seen a 61% decrease in the amount of litter that was being picked soon after introducing our very first clean up station in Bude.
In 2021 we launched The 2 Minute Beach School, run by a small team of qualified teachers from our Bude pod. Our sessions educate about the ocean and impacts of litter and plastic pollution and encourage children and young people to care for the places they live, love and visit.
Our 2 Minute community really help us to spread our messages far and wide. Making people more plastic aware is central to our mission and we have launched campaigns including the coffee cup challenge, highlighing single-use plastic and our recently launched Refill campaign on social media, running throughout November - do please click here to join in and become part of the Refill revolution; https://2minute.org/Sign-up-for-The-2-Minute-Refill-Challenge
We need your help!
With the growing climate crisis and pollution of our oceans, our work becomes even more important. We cannot do this without you, please support us today to help us work hard to support our oceans for generations to come. Money raised from this campaign will help us to continue spreading our message far and wide, fund Beach School places and enable us to install more clean up stations around the UK.
