Give Swifts a Home

On 27th December 2023 we successfully raised £3,500 ( + est. £220.00 Gift Aid ) with 44 supporters in 42 days

Swifts are amazing birds but they are in trouble - we are raising funds to provide nest boxes and caller systems to establish new colonies.

We need to increase public awareness of Swifts. Even with our ‘Welcome Back Swifts’ banner in place at Antrim Library, a lot of people are unaware of the Swifts occupying the built-in nest cavities there.

If our appeal raises sufficient funds, we want to erect an information point at Ulster Bar Corner, next to the Library and also in Clotworthy, the site of another Swift colony.

If we can tell the story of the Swifts in places where members of the community can see them, it will encourage them to try and help Swifts themselves, hopefully by taking up our offer of a free nest box and caller system.

We are RSPB Antrim Local Group. We are raising money to buy swift nest boxes and caller systems to Give Swifts a Home in our local area. This will give swifts a better chance of finding a place to nest and rear their young.

We will give the swift nest boxes to people in our area, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough, to put up before next spring. We will also loan them a swift caller system, which, when played near the nest box, will encourage swifts to explore and hopefully use the new box.
