The Community land trust aim to revive the town centre of Leiston for its people. A public garden space will encourage social cohesion and well being in the heart of the town. The area will also serve as a new public link between the town centre and the upcoming affordable housing. The space is envisioned to draw in the local people of Leiston as well as the new residents to encourage chance encounters, combat loneliness and offer a safe outdoor gathering space for communal activities.
The money will be spent of the design development of the communal garden including landscaping, pathways, lighting, and street furniture. With the design in place, a planning application can be made to bring the works forward. As with the church garden project we are now executing, the project will at this stage be able to attract further funding from donations and grants to undertake the capital works.
The wild garden will be a sensory and well being garden that offers a space of relaxation for the residents and local people. Features such as compost fences & insect hotels are envisioned that may be repositioned to the wider site in phase 2. Located in the town centre, the garden also acts as a point of information towards the wider proposal that will champion sustainable construction technologies, carbon negative systems and environmentally sensitive and energy efficient elements.
