The Library of Things Saltburn is a membership service where people can borrow items, from strimmers to ice cream makers, instead of buying them. This means they spend less money to get a DIY project done or try a new hobby. It also means less 'things' are bought and the vast majority of our items are donated saving the planet's resources and reducing the amount of things ending up in landfill.
The average power tool is used for less than an hour before ending up forgotten in the back of a cupboard or in a bin.
We also run monthly free workshops where people of all ages can learn skills that make their clothes and other items last for longer and even give them a new lease of life. Such as, visible mending, making plant pots out of found objects and making your own pants out of old t-shirts!
We are based in Saltburn but anyone in the local area can use the library, come to our workshops or volunteer to help us maintain the items in the library and open to the public.
The funding we receive will pay for professional facilitators and materials for workshops, consumable items such as sandpaper for our electric sander we lend out, and contribute towards our rent and other running costs.
The more funding we get the more free memberships we can offer to help the people in our community in the greatest need.
