This year I've decided to Challenge myself to the MAX by undertaking the 100km Ultra March, to complete 100km, and 2150m of elevation, in under 24hrs, 100% walking, no running or jogging.
The event will be on 28th June, and I will be joining other members of our Aviva Claims Supply Chain team to take on the Peak District Ultra Challenge to raise funds for Parkinson's UK.
This cause is particularly poignant to me, as I recently lost my Mum, who had been living with Parkinson's for several years. I have seen first hand how cruel this disease can be, and the profound impact it has.
Our Challenge
The Peak District Ultra Challenge is no small feat. It will test our endurance, strength, teamwork and determination as we cover a significant distance across one of the UK's most beautiful national parks. Participants can choose from various distances, including 25km, 50km, 75km, and the full continuous 100km, each with its own set of challenges and elevations. The full 100km route features a tough and varied figure-of-eight course through Derbyshire’s finest scenery, with a total climb of 2150m. This year some will be challenging themselves further, taking part in the Ultra March® option for those who really want to make it TOUGH! This option is designed for participants to walk (no jogging or running allowed) and still want to achieve a sub-24-hour for the 100km distance or a sub-12-hour for the 50km distance.
The Challenge is open to participants to walk, jog, or run the course, making it as inclusive as possible, and accessible to a wider range of fitness levels and preferences.
Parkinson's UK
Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. In the UK, around 153,000 people are currently living with Parkinson's disease. This number is expected to increase to approximately 172,000 by 2030 due to population growth and ageing. Every hour, two more people are diagnosed with Parkinson's. It can have a profound impact on the lives of those diagnosed, as well as their families and friends. Parkinson's UK is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those affected by the condition through research, support, and advocacy.
