New stretch target

We have so many demands on out time and resources so the more we raise the more people we can help - more care in homes, more equipment, more befrienders = more supported vulnerable people.

We are now on our stretch target - more money raised will help more lonely people to not feel isolated!

Thank you so much.

No-one should be alone at Christmas, or any other time of the year...

We are Cherishers 811

Cherishers 811 CIC provides care and support. We truly give a voice to those who are experiencing social and economic deprivation, and focus on support for disabled and vulnerable people. We empower the Elderly & Disabled to stay active while living with a disability.  We respond to the community needs by providing focused care, community, and sports therapy activities for free, on demand.

We provide many activities including in person anti-loneliness events and keep people active, engaged and connected! We provide care, companionship, a careline for ongoing communication, address digital poverty so they can stay connected with friends and family; and Green therapies alongside adapted sports therapies to keep everyone active.

1633608672_0cherishers_1.jpgWe offer home care, shopping, collecting prescriptions and sports therapy activities such as Adapted Chair Based Aerobics, Adapted Zumba, Adapted Pilates, adapted cycling and Stretching for The Elderly. We also offer book clubs, lunch clubs, green therapy, yarn bombing and creative pursuits. We teach digital skills to promote independence, combat isolation and loneliness.  Our befrienders build relationships of trust so care is delivered through understanding individual needs.

What we can do with your help

People need to be connected. We are going to run in-person events so that no one feels alone or isolated.

Allowing them to connect with others as part of our events and clubs and enabling carers to get a well-earned break from their demanding roles. With the terrible economic impact, we have more demand for our therapies and classes, our clubs are always hugely popular and we need to provide more space so that more people can attend and we can run them more regularly.

We need YOUR HELP to further adapt and modernise more of our community shop space so it is a welcoming and sociable place, Covid secure and accessible to everyone. In order to be able to continue making the area accessible to all, we urgently need to refurbish unusable space and bring it into use. We have additional space in our community shop in which we would like to convert so we welcome 40 vulnerable members at any time for adaptive sports activities, lunch clubs and therapy as well as events increasing capacity by 100%

You are helping us 'Build Back Better' after the pandemic, by addressing the mental wellbeing and health of vulnerable people, enabling them to participate in cycling and sports activities in a safe space.  Our adaptive sport activities have been a great way to overcome social isolation and something that people of all ages can get involved with.

We also have our amazing clubs including lunch club, book club and yarn bombing - such activities are even a good way for those in who attend our wellbeing room to come together and participate on a regular basis.

We are looking forward to running more in-person events again to allow more people to meet and enjoy each other’s company.

Our Target

We want to raise £15000 to help host anti-loneliness events and extend our capacity to host sports and creative therapies.

We will improve our yard to host sports therapy, Green therapy, Pilates, mental wellbeing, and outdoor recreation focused on the disabled and elderly who want to feel in a 'safe space' whilst exercising.

Monies raised will fund several aspects of our work - we will host 4 separate events combatting loneliness during Christmas / New Year and Easter for up to 40 people each time.  We will upgrade space within our community shop to enable more people to attend events with full wheelchair and disability access.  We will provide sports equipment suitable for the disabled and elderly including cycles and we will resource our careline with wellbeing advisors.

We are looking to develop an increased range of sports therapies so more elderly and vulnerable people can benefit from sport.  We are targeting the purchase of adapted bikes so that these can be used within our new space and the maintenance of unused bikes so that people can find their way back to cycling.

This will allow us to increase the number of spaces available for our sports therapy classes and wellbeing clubs and events-  Help us to make our dreams a reality!

What we will do

Host 4 events – 2 over Christmas/New Year 2021-22 and 2 in the spring of 2022 to help combat loneliness – this is especially need for the vulnerable but also carers who are often isolated by their caring duties and need a place to relax.

We provide various support activities including, weekly lunch club for the elderly, vulnerable and lonely/isolated, sports therapy and green therapy classes, and art classes. We have a  Book Club, Lunch Club, Art Therapy, Yarn bombing club - knitting and crochet, adapted sports, Green therapy, which are all free and open to anyone who is vulnerable, disabled or feels socially isolated.

1633608745_7cherishers_1.jpgWe want to increase the space available for adaptive sport activities and we as creative pursuits will help overcome social isolation and enable more of those those in who attend our wellbeing room to come together and participate in adaptive sports.

Our sports therapy activities include: Chair Based Aerobics; Zumba; Pilates; Cycling; Green Therapy and Mental wellbeing exercises.  Our recreation is focused on the disabled and elderly who want to feel in a 'safe space' whilst exercising. With your help we will convert our spare unused space for adaptive sports activities, doubling our capacity.

Cherishers will use the project to address the combined economic and health issues by providing free on demand sports therapy, care and support. Through our care vulnerable people are not alone and we provide a safe space for them.

We help people with all physical capabilities to cycle, with the project expanding what we already provide through adapted cycling. We help people gain strength and learn skills to begin cycling or rediscover their passion for it. We will modify our courtyard increasing the capacity by 150%, hosting 20 people instead. By helping a wider range of people with physical limitations start their cycling journey, they can experience the joys of the outdoors in a safe environment.

The equipment needed to keep participants safe and will be used in different weather seasons. The outdoor benefits of cycling for everyone’s mental and physical health are very important to us. The economic situation means that people are not able to afford the care they deserve, they are also not able to afford additional therapies that can improve their mobility and wellbeing. This project will provide safe space and equipment to improve their lives. We are also encouraging sustainability with the plan to refurbish bikes so they can be saved from landfill and have a useful future purpose.

We will help more people enjoy cycling, hosting 20 people through facility and equipment expansion, helping  more people enjoy cycling for their pleasure and physical wellbeing. We encourage ‘participation’ regardless of mobility or ability, experience, age, gender, background, or mental /physical capacity.

Sustainability and climate change

Cherishers have made an application for the Aviva Climate Fund. We want to both help prevent or reduce the impacts of climate change and also prepare people and places for the impacts of climate change, through education and recovery planning.

By having carers trained as sustainability champions we can provide dual service = helping encourage sustainability through carers providing education using our sustainability tool kit and also providing companionship and support!

We want to make our entire operation carbon neutral and will target that all our anti-loneliness events are sustainable with limited waste generated including using sustainably sourced produce.

We plan to start training carers as sustainability champions visiting the vulnerable at home will provide practical advice on combating climate change. We will host sustainable sports / therapy events and by education through trusted carers, will help the elderly to effectively understand/prepare for climate change. Increasing their contribution to sustainability may include planting veg, sustainable cleaning products, and a community shared garden.

In 2022 - We would look to move more of our carers and volunteers onto electric vehicles/ bicycles so our business can both help others be sustainable as well as being more sustainable in our operations.

Why support us - A word from our cherished community:

“Cherishers what a kind-hearted, selfless and compassionate team! My mother and I both contacted COVID and was rushed into hospital (intensive care). Sadly, my mother died, and I survived however I was left physically disabled from the disease. After surviving Covid and coming home following 3 months in hospital you provided me with the support to rebuild my life! Yet nothing has been too much for you… from Hospital appointments, doctor trips, cleaning my home, picking up my prescriptions and doing my shopping! I can honestly say that without your friendship and services I don’t think I would have wanted to face the world anymore! I am able to move on from the loss of my Mother knowing that I have a new family with the team at Cherishers who genuinely care THANK YOU”

Thank you again on behalf of Cherishers for all of your support - it means so much!
