We’d like to improve our old, overgrown pond area so that it can be used as an exciting, beautiful new teaching space for our children.

by Hagley Primary School PTA in Stourbridge, England, United Kingdom

We are a team of just 5 parent volunteers, working hard to support our local school (Hagley Primary).

As a Thrive School of Excellence 2022, we believe that we can offer inclusive learning outside of the traditional classroom environment to support the brilliant teaching provided by our lovely school. We would like to run an exciting new project to reinvigorate our old, overgrown pond area to create an interesting, beautiful new teaching space for our children.

We will use the money raised to repair, make safe and improve the existing pond area and then maintain this for at least the next 2 years. We would like to invest in new resources to support the children’s investigations (such as magnifying glasses and nets) and purchase storage facilities to keep the equipment safe.

The area was originally installed to enable an extension to the classroom base and allow children the opportunity to learn about the environments around them in a practical way. Unfortunately due to staff shortages our school have not been able to maintain this pond to the standard that it should be and therefore it is now deemed unsafe for children to learn and utilise the area. As the images show it is now not a suitable habitat for the wildlife that we had hoped to attract over the years. Therefore we would love the opportunity to redevelop this area, to breed new life into the pond and surrounding and to allow the children of Hagley the opportunity to pond dip, to investigate and to see a sustainable environment for the local wildlife to grow.

We would love the opportunity to replace the lining, to remove the overgrown plants, to replace the stone work surrounding and to encourage frogs, toads, fish and mush more for all children to enjoy as part of their class time and also when walking past our school.
