UTRY is operating since 2013 to support BAME Orthodox Jewish families living with food poverty. They are at least 12% more effected by the Cost of Living Crisis according to the research done and their disproportionate hardships include severe poverty and debt situations. We are based in Hackney, an area of high deprivation. We support people who ask for assistance or are referred from outside parties after assessing their need based on the application form measuring financial and circumstantial information. Hundreds of families have reached financial stability after being supported into employment opportunities and we continue our mission of giving sustainable support to reveres the cycle of poverty.
We have created a targeted project to provide a financial health check with individualised finance plan for each family. This will be provided by professional Finance Coach who have successfully gotten people out of debt with income exceeding expenditure lifestyles. We will also run support group workshops with question and answer sessions, Ask the Pros, budgeting ideas and more where people can share their opinions and thoughts to create a community who are financially aware and sustainable.
The aims of this project:
1. Financial awareness - Many people are budgeting out of rote.
2. Financial Stability - The professionals will give each family a targeted plan how to stabilise and maintain their finances so they can do so independently.
3. Group Support - Validation, mutual motivation and the united effort to work on the problems.
4. Skills - the workshops will increase financial stability and enhanced employment opportunities, as well as information and referrals on further avenues to pursue.
