The cost-of-living crisis is having a disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable in our society.
At AMURT we are preparing for a winter of unprecedented need as families, already struggling, are left with the prospect of not being able to heat their homes, pay their rent/mortgages or put food on the table.
Numbers of service users are steadily increasing at our hot food distribution points. As well as homeless and rough sleepers we’re seeing more pensioners and people on low incomes who are struggling to purchase and access food, some of whom are threatened with homelessness.
One pensioner, embarrassed and teary eyed, explained “these meals…are a lifesaver...after paying my bills yesterday I’m left with no money at all until I receive my pension! Initially I felt embarrassed…taking away from the homeless, but it will make a positive difference to me too. I’ll actually get to eat!”.
Growing numbers of beneficiaries have only recently become directly affected by the current crisis and feel lost about support available and how to access it.
This project will simplify information about and increase access to additional services which offer financial planning, benefits, housing support and advice that beneficiaries may need to get them through these challenging times.
AMURT UK has been providing hot nutritious meals to the homeless and vulnerable for over 10 yrs. We have deeply embedded in the local community of Hackney and are very trusted by our beneficiaries.
