We are seeking to raise funds for our Refugee Football Group!

Refugee Resource provides psychological, social and practical support for refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants to help them heal from trauma and suffering, and to build new lives as part of Oxfordshire’s diverse community.

The group has been created for refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrant young men in Oxford and Oxfordshire who are finding it difficult to access appropriate mainstream services because of economic, language, cultural or health barriers, including PTSD, anxiety and depression caused by their experiences of conflict and complex trauma. Sessions are run on a weekly basis for an hour and half at a local school's astro turf pitch. This is a secure location where the young people feel safe to enjoy themselves.  

We have partnered with  Asylum Welcome and Oxford United in the Community to create this group. 

The sessions are delivered by an experienced coach from a local football charity supported by the group leader as well as a coordinator who has extensive experience of playing football as well as working with socially excluded groups of young men. As the football group is specialist and therapeutic in nature, a highly experienced RR counsellor provides clinical support in the form of group observation as well as a reflective practice space for the group leader. Our players are young men (aged 20 and under) and are come from amongst RR and Asylum Welcome clients. A small number of 'older’ young men in their twenties will also be recruited to volunteer and to be trained up as sports leaders and coaches. Once the young men are ready to move on they can be progressed into the Diversity League or one of the local migrant football groups.
