At the beginning of April 2024, I underwent back surgery for a condition I had been suffering with for around 9 years. This prevented me from being able to walk or stand beyond 10 minutes without any pain. Since my surgery, I am really keen to challenge myself so I will be taking part in the 25km walk in the Peak District for a fantastic cause, Parkinson's UK.

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. In the UK, around 153,000 people are currently living with Parkinson's disease. This number is expected to increase to approximately 172,000 by 2030 due to population growth and ageing. Every hour, two more people are diagnosed with Parkinson's. It can have a profound impact on the lives of those diagnosed, as well as their families and friends. Parkinson's UK is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those affected by the condition through research, support, and advocacy. This cause is particularly poignant because two members of Team, including our Team captain, Nick Mayhew, recently lost a close family member who had been living with Parkinson's for several years.
