What you will be doing

Sapling Support

The group will be working with some of our young trees to ensure they can develop properly into broad-leaved woodland. This will include elements of weeding out unwanted species and the removal of defunct tree tubes.

About Greno Woods Nature Reserve

Greno Woods is an ancient woodland rich in wildlife and one of our largest reserves, covering 169 hectares. As well as varierty of conifer and broad leaf trees, it is also an important natural flood management role, containing a network of ponds, ditches ready to store water and slow the flow; reducing the flooding impact in the local area while also creating habitat for freshwater invertebrates and amphibians such as common frog and smooth newt.

You'll also see, or hear, a range of birds such as woodpecker, tree creeper and woodcock; and find evidence of mammals such as bats, badgers and roe deer.

What we are looking for

No specific skills required. Some level of physical fitness would be good however we will have regular biscuit breaks and can adapt the activity to all levels.

The most important thing is that you're willing to give it a go while being outside to enjoy the fresh air. 🌞

What difference this will make

In certain areas of Greno Woods, we are slowly removing the monoculture of coniferous trees to be replaced by mixed broad leaf woodland, using native trees that are much more beneficial for biodiversity. With your support we can ensure that these new broad leaf trees have the best chance of growing tall and strong to create an amazing woodland.

What to bring

Please bring: Lunch, water, appropriate clothes and footwear for the weather and activities.
