LNBP Community Boating is a registered charity and non-profit making voluntary organisation. We were founded in 1981 by a group of teachers, youth workers and canal enthusiasts who recognised the benefit of introducing children and young people, particularly from the inner cities, to the enjoyment of canals and inland waterways. We provide the opportunity for a wide variety of user groups from all over the UK and overseas to enjoy inexpensive canal boating holidays and trips in central England on our two purpose built narrowboats based at Braunston, Northamptonshire. These groups include schools, colleges, youth groups, clubs, uniformed organisations and associations, groups working with the disabled, the partially sighted and those with special needs, and organisations working with the disadvantaged and unemployed.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a severe impact on communities, our own operations and the wider waterways economy. We want to do what we can, as soon as we can, to support those in the community affected by the pandemic. We want to set up a dedicated fund to cover our hire costs to provide short breaks for those affected by the pandemic, particularly through unemployment, loneliness or by being a key worker. Our boats will provide the opportunity for relaxation and improve mental wellbeing.
