To provide operational funding for the award-winning Spear Programme, helping young people facing challenges to find employment.

The award-winning Spear Programme helps 16-24-year-olds facing barriers to work overcome the challenges they are facing to find and succeed in sustainable employment. The initial programme runs for six weeks followed with a year of support for each participant to ensure long-term success.
It offers young people in Islington and the local area the opportunity to challenge their mindset and improve their work readiness. It enables them to kick start their career and find long-term employment.
Spear Islington works with up to 90 young people each year. The majority are referred by one of our partners – local job centres, youth offending teams, social services, and other local council representatives. Over 75% of Spear completers will be in work or education a year after completion.
It costs £1,500 per person to support each Young Person through the initial 6 week Programme and following 12 months of career support. Funds raised by Aviva will help directly support the operational costs of this Programme which would directly be used to put Young People through the Programme. The Charity was set up in 2016 and whilst it has stable funding, it does rely on donations in order to operate which is why this fundraising would be significant in supporting the charity.
