Who are we, and what is our project about?
We’re Stomping Grounds Forest School, a charity using nature connection to improve wellbeing, tackle isolation and build inclusive communities. Our Riverside Project in Teams, Gateshead, is a growing hub offering outdoor sessions for families, carers, people new to the area, and those experiencing mental health challenges. We run Forest School-style play for children and families, wellbeing walks, and nature-based therapeutic activities like Forest Bathing. This project supports Climate Action by encouraging environmental stewardship, and Financial Wellbeing by offering low-cost, accessible support and volunteering pathways.
Our project supports climate action through tree planting, woodland management, and climate education at Gateshead Riverside. A secure storage container will allow us to safely store tools and saplings on-site, enabling year-round workshops and outdoor learning. These sessions will focus on improving biodiversity, engaging the community in climate action, and planting trees along the Tyne to reduce flood risk and support riverbank stability. The container will facilitate more sessions, provide storage for climate education materials, and help reduce transport emissions. It’s a small but vital step in helping our community respond to climate change.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We urgently need a secure storage container on site. Right now, we have nowhere safe to store tools, equipment or seating—meaning our team has to carry everything in for every session. A container will help us run more frequent, accessible activities and reduce physical strain on volunteers, making the site safer, more efficient, and more welcoming for all.
