Imagine arriving in a new country, full of hope, but unable to communicate, find a job, or help your children with schoolwork. For many refugees and migrants, this is their daily reality. This is why teaching English to refugees and migrants is not just important—it’s life-changing.
The Challenge
Every year, thousands of refugees and migrants seek a new beginning in our community. They come with dreams of safety, stability, and a brighter future for their families. However, language barriers can turn these dreams into daunting challenges. Without proficiency in English, they struggle to access essential services, secure employment, and fully participate in community life.
The Solution
Our language club offers tailored English classes designed to meet the unique needs of refugees and migrants. Here’s how we make a difference:
Enhanced Communication: English proficiency is crucial for everyday interactions, from grocery shopping to doctor’s visits. Our classes empower individuals to communicate confidently and effectively.
Employment Opportunities: Many skilled refugees and migrants are unable to find work in their fields due to language barriers. By learning English, they can access better job opportunities, support their families, and contribute to the economy.
Educational Support: Parents who learn English can better support their children’s education, helping with homework and engaging with teachers, leading to improved academic outcomes for the next generation.
Community Integration: Language skills foster a sense of belonging and community. Refugees and migrants can build relationships, understand local customs, and actively participate in community activities.
Our Campaign: Teaching English, Transforming Lives
We invite you to join our campaign, Empowering Futures, to support English language education for refugees and migrants. So far in 2024 we have had 91 attendees to the classes with 23 children being looked after in our creche whilst their parents are in the class. We have been able to support 2/3 of attendees with travel to the class to overcome this obstacle and increase attendance.
Your contributions will directly fund:
- Qualified Instructors: Hiring experienced teachers who understand the unique challenges faced by our students.
- Learning Materials: Providing textbooks, online resources, and interactive tools to enhance learning.
- Support Services: Offering additional support such as childcare during classes, transportation assistance, and access to one to one support.
At the time of writing this, we have 33 people on the waiting list to join Language Club.
£25 would fund a month's teaching materials for the English Language Club.
£100 would fund a teacher to deliver an English Language Club session
£196 would fund one creche session for the children of language club attendees.
All donations match funded up to the value of £250
With your generous support, we can open the doors for these eager individuals on our waitlist, granting them the invaluable opportunity to immerse themselves in the transformative experience of the Language Club.
