The House of Fairy Tales

RCN 1140334, London

The House of Fairy Tales works with artists and creatives, inspiring learning, ethical citizenship and creativity in children across a number of platforms including school programmes, theatrical events, exhibitions, publishing and advocacy. Our major project is called The Great Imagining.

Our History

The House of Fairy Tales is a renowned children’s arts charity founded by Deborah Curtis and Gavin Turk. For over 20 years, it has created immersive, educational experiences that inspire creativity, imagination, and social awareness in young people. Working with schools, festivals, and cultural institutions, the charity has reached hundreds of thousands of children across the UK, empowering them through storytelling, interactive installations, and community engagement to explore complex ideas like sustainability, identity and justice in playful, accessible ways.

The Great Imagining

Our flagship project, The Great Imagining is an arts-based climate action and creative education programme designed to empower young people to imagine their future.  It blends storytelling, immersive experiences, and hands-on learning to ignite curiosity and equip young people with the vision, skills, and agency to shape a greener, fairer, wiser world … And see themselves in it!

Born from over two decades of practice, The Great Imagining convenes artists, educators, scientists, designers, engineers, philosophers, and dreamers who believe in and support the power of young people to catalyze transformation.

“Before The Great Imagining, my pupils struggled to see how climate change related to their daily lives. After just one workshop they were buzzing with ideas—from building bug hotels to writing letters to our MP. They felt heard, empowered and, most importantly, hopeful.” —  Ms Sarah Johnston, Year 5 Teacher, St Peter’s Primary, Staffordshire

Scaling impact

We have prototyped a fully‑scalable model now running across Staffordshire, delivered in partnership with Cannock Chase District Council, Staffordshire County Council and Lichfield District Council. By co‑creating programmes with local community groups, educators, artists and youth organisations, we root every activity in its community while developing a toolkit that can be lifted and replicated anywhere in the UK.

Every pound you pledge helps us refine this model and scale it across the country.

Working together

We are building an ecosystem of partners—community groups, universities, local businesses, artists, experts and elders and youth activists—because the challenges we face demand collaboration across every sector. Together we shine a light on what is possible when communities unite to imagine and create a future that works for everyone.

Join us in building a greener, fairer, wiser future
