Help us to plant just under 3500 trees!

by Katie Doull in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom

‘Trees for Climate’ is a 5-year, England-wide programme of woodland creation led by England’s Community Forests, running until March 2025. It is supported by DEFRA and the Forestry Commission, as well as the Community Forest Trust.

The programme is being delivered by a collaboration of eleven Community Forests. Across Nottinghamshire, the Sherwood Forest Trust (SFT) is working in partnership with the Greenwood Community Forest (GCF) to deliver the programme, and have committed to plant 250 hectares across Nottinghamshire by March 2025.

Trees for Climate will help to reduce flood risk, increase sustainable UK grown timber, provide more places for nature & biodiversity to thrive, increase people’s access to and enjoyment of woodland, and will also create new jobs and secure existing ones within the forestry and environmental sector.

For this particular site, Mansfield District Council (MDC) have identified an area of land suitable for tree planting, and these efforts will be funded under this Trees for Climate scheme. MDC and SFT are working together to complete this project by the end of February 2025.
