Life is hard for people seeking sanctuary here. Not only does the cost-of-living crisis continue to bite, but this summer’s anti-immigration protests and riots had a profound effect on the people who use our services.
Young people reported they were too scared to leave the house. A mother using our Drop-in told us she was told to ‘Go back to your own country’, even though she works tirelessly for our NHS.
This is not who we are as a nation. We know the vast majority of people here are welcoming to those who need help.
HOW WE HELP
- Free English and employability classes to help people make a new start
- A warm, safe place to live for those experiencing homelessness
- Drop-ins where people new to our region can get advice, make friends, have a hot meal, pick up winter clothing and even get a free haircut
- Vital support services for children and young people complemented by a huge range of joyful activities from surfing to circus skills.
Above all, we extend a warm welcome – and the chance of a hopeful tomorrow.
CAN YOU HELP US UNWRAP THE JOY?
£10 could buy a move-in pack to welcome someone to their new home
£20 could buy hot food for a Drop-in client over a whole month
£30 could buy a surf lesson for a young person to build their confidence
£50 could pay for a term’s travel for a learner to access our free English classes
£70 could pay for a week’s heating & lighting in one of our homes
Thank you for supporting refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants this winter.
