This exciting day at the races has raised a staggering £10 million since it was launched in 1971. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the success of the day by selling raffle tickets to racegoers and holding a bucket collection at the end of the day. There is plenty of opportunity for breaks, and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

What you will be doing

  • Event support
  • Collecting funds on behalf of Macmillan at an event
  • Being the friendly face of Macmillan, giving out leaflets to the public and signposting them to our services
  • Other ad-hoc activities that may arise

Getting there

York Racecourse lies within a mile of the city centre and is served by convenient road, rail and air access routes.

Walking

On racedays there is a marked walking route for racegoers to walk back into the city centre, this is just over a mile.

By Bike

There are a number of bike parks at the racecourse for racegoers to lock their bikes. Please note these are left at the owners risk.

By Train

Fast and frequent trains run from London Kings Cross, taking as little as 1 hour 52 minutes. Direct trains running from Edinburgh, Manchester and Birmingham. York Station is a taxi, regular shuttle bus or a brisk walk to the racecourse.

By Shuttle Bus

The 197 Shuttle Bus service links York Railway Station to the Racecourse,

From York Station
The shuttle buses operate from Stand RJ opposite the Railway Station entrance between 11am and 1.00pm (between 4pm and 6pm for the evening Music Showcase).

From the Racecourse
The shuttle buses return to the Railway Station from Campleshon Road, next to the Racecourse entrance, from 4pm onwards. (From 8.30pm till approximately 10.30pm for the evening Music Showcase).

By Car

The recommended raceday route to the racecourse from all directions is via the A64 to the south of the racecourse. Please note, on racedays not all of the usual routes to the racecourse are accessible. Please follow the yellow directional signs, and be aware that satellite navigation systems will not contain the traffic plan routes.

Car parking - There is a plentiful supply of free car parking on all of our racedays, vehicles can be left (at the Owner's risk) overnight and collected by 11am the following day.

Facilities

There is plenty of opportunity for breaks, and toilets, lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Accessibility

Our vision is to develop a diverse and inclusive culture that empowers and enables everyone to be their best when giving time, energy and experience. We will strive to meet the different needs of people who choose to give their time, and work hard to improve accessibility – both face to face and online – to give everyone the best possible experience.

Please get in touch to discuss how we can meet any specific requirements.
