We did it
On 15th July 2020 we successfully raised £3,303 ( + est. £427.50 Gift Aid ) with 16 supporters in 134 days

To restore the STEPS to the main hall for arts, sport & community events. Also prepare to deliver food to those impacted by Covid-19.

New stretch target

The initial £3.25k will be used to make the stairways safe and to help set up a scheme for supporting hungry people during the coronavirus emergency.  The stretch target of £12k will allow us to make the upstairs hall safe for public events and go towards a second accessible toilet on the ground floor. Following a grant from a Charitable Trust, we now have nearly all the funding in place to start work in July.

In response to the need to get food to isolated elderly during the Coronavirus crisis, we are planning for Saints to be part of a response from agencies in Nuneaton. Details are still being worked on, but we are putting Aviva Community Fund donations received in April to this cause.   Our intention is still to complete the "next steps" project as envisaged, though with additional outside seating to help social distancing. We plan to reopen Saints and start refurbishment work in early July.

  • "Saints" opened in January 2020, providing a unique community hub in the heart of Nuneaton, taking on the lease of a former "Saint No More" night club.  This fulfils a long-held dream of many community leaders to see a welcoming community space in the heart of the town,  where young families can reach for their dreams and those from disadvantaged backgrounds find new hope.  Our vision is to inspire, train and open up opportunities for those who may lack education or work,  through enterprise, arts and sports.
  • The project is backed up by an energetic team of volunteers, scores of whom cleared up the dilapidated former night club or now help run it.  The photo below is from the official opening with many of our volunteers, supporters, and steering group present:- 1583088227_open_evening_edit2.jpg
  • Phase 1 on the ground floor is now open, providing enterprise and learning zones called "ENTERPRISE & EQUIP" ~ all within a friendly café environment featuring a free play children's area. We tackle unemployment and lack of education by raising aspirations, providing opportunities for people to start their own business enterprise, and equip with skills for life.  1582993083_0_nunsaints-11_enterprise_zone.jpg
  • Saints is open to everyone throughout the week, usually from 930am to 330pm (and later for planned events). Staff and volunteers strive to provide a relaxed environment where all are welcome.

  • 1583232614_cafe.jpgPhase 2 will allow access to the disused first floor ~ an amazing vintage dance hall which youngsters in Nuneaton probably don't even know exists. This will accommodate "CREATE & CONNECT" ~ a unique venue for the arts and connecting as a community. This will create space for young people to engage in dance, drama, music, art and more, and to support and promote local creatives. Below is the ballroom in its former heyday. We want to bring back to life the historical value of this venue and hold events that will inspire both the older and rising generation:-1582993148_vintage_dance_hall.png
  • "NEXT STEPS":  Saints needs your help NOW is to open up the stairway to the amazing first floor hall
  • Our target of £4.8k will provide SAFE ACCESS ~  renovate the damaged and broken stairway, so people can get between the ground and first floor safely.   Until we do this, the amazing hall remains tantalizingly out of bounds.   Every week since Saints opened we've had groups asking to book the hall,  but we've had to say "not yet"!

  • Our stretch target of £12k will also help fund making the upstairs SAFE FOR PUBLIC USE.   Anything above that will go towards the SECOND ACCESSIBLE TOILET on the ground floor.   We need more space for baby changing!
  • We've still got a lot of work to do, but when fully renovated the first floor will provide an amazing space in the heart of Nuneaton for community led arts, music, dance and sports events.  Managed by Together for Change, the project is overseen by a Steering Group,  which features leaders from  many Nuneaton churches and other local groups working ecumenically (many are in the photo below taken at the official opening with Marcus Jones MP).
