Community support

Funding level: Up to £1,000

Description

Our Scout & Community hall at Jessopp Road is the hub of our community here in Norwich, with over 100 children using the hub every week. We are based 5 minutes from the center of Norwich, a thriving and busy city. This community hub a green and safe space in this bustling city for everyone to enjoy.

Scouting is the UK's biggest mixed youth organization. We change lives by offering 6 to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities.

Scouts helps children and young adults reach their full potential. Scouts develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world

The users of the hub are mainly a mix of Scouts and local school children (using the venue for the forest School organization). We also have hundreds of users that use the hub for Scouting activities over weekends including sleepovers, competitions. These events tend to be represented from the wider community across Norwich. This all results in thousands of children using the venue throughout the year.

We recently had to have the existing tiled floor professionally removed. This has left a damaged and uneven flooring behind. As the flooring current is unsafe due to trip hazards and more materials becoming loose we are no longer able to use this venue. This has been a massive blow and huge disappointment to the volunteers and young people.

We have had to cancel several meetings and rearrange alternative temporary meeting places. This is a drain on resources as well as a big inconvenience, as none of these venues have the open space and facilities to match our hub. The hub is based in an acre of woodland and without access to this building it will also mean the Scouts are unable to camp on the land, as the build has the necessary toilet and water/waste facilities needed to run a camp.

We are looking for a small amount of funding to repair and resurface the flooring. We have already engaged the parents and supporters of the group. These have already offered to volunteered their time to do the repair work and use their own skills to help the group.

We are excited that if we were successful in receiving this funding it would not only allow the usage of this vital community space to come back in active use again but also engage more children, parents and friends to be part of our local community, improve their surroundings and hopefully a few may also join the wonderful volunteer organizations already involved at the hub.

The funding would specifically buy the concrete to repair to holes in the flooring, primer to prepare the flooring and a flooring compound to create a flat and level surface. There would also be painting to ensure a strong and clean surface that the hall could be used again.

We believe this is an exciting opportunity and would ask for everyone's full support to allow this project to happen!! Thank you for everyone's support and well wishes we have had so far.

33RD NORWICH SCOUT GROUP

Our hub is an essential part of the community, the difference it makes to so many young people every week is nothing short of amazing. I have been lucky to grow and developed as a person because of Scouting. I'm proud that having this place will make a positive difference to hundreds more children.
