Description

Following the loss of our previous Scout Group headquarters, the local council granted us permission to use an existing timber framed building in a local community park. The building was previously used by a rugby club as changing rooms for away visitors, however it does not have any running water, drainage, or heating. A number of dedicated leaders and parents have modified the building as best we can in order to continue to hold weekly section meetings but we are in desperate need of toilet facilities, a kitchen and storage for our camping and activity equipment - this can only be achieved by adding an extension. Over the past 4 years we have raised sufficient funds to install the underground drainage, the footings and the beam and block floor, plus we have just enough money to build the timber frame and roof, but we do not have enough funds to clad the outside of the building or fit out the interior. We previously had use of the park's public toilets for a few years but, due to repeated vandalism, the toilets are now locked in the evenings so the children have to be escorted across the park to the Rugby club in order to use the amenities there - this is especially difficult for the sections including children with physical disabilities. The Scout Group currently provides weekly activities for over 90 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorer Scouts, and the planned additional facilities will help provide the freedom we need to be self supporting, now and for years to come. As the majority of the Scouting meetings are held in the evenings, the extension to the building will also enable it to be used during the day by other local organisations that are looking for somewhere to meet. The Scout Group and associated volunteers have been waiting for such a long time to build the extension and have worked so hard to raise the money they have to date, but the estimated costs to finish the project makes completion seem such a long way off. This is not the most adventurous project looking for an award but the money will makes such a big difference to the young people of Brentwood now and in the future by providing basic amenities. Thank you for your consideration. Please vote for us.

3rd Brentwood Scout Group

Moment of Pride

All the leaders who give up so much of their time voluntarily and the smiles on the children's faces when they get to take part in activities that they would not normally get a chance to try.
Our Scout Group is growing rapidly which is a sign that we are doing something great.
