Community support

Funding level: £5,001 to £10,000

As a voluntary organisation Wythall Community Association (WCA) provides a 37 acre park and sports facilities for the local residents. We have a large store for the tractor, mowing and maintenance equipment, workshop and store for football posts and pitch markers etc. This building, known as “The Tractor Shed” is vital to our organisation and over the years it has been continually maintained by volunteers from materials they were able to acquire. More than 20 years ago the original shed was replaced with a larger construction of telegraph poles, salvaged floor joists and plywood donated from a salvage yard. Recently we have replaced damage plywood and now we would like to protect it for future years by cladding it with steel profile sheets.
The new cladding will make it weather tight enabling the whole area to be used in addition to making the structure more secure.
We propose to strengthen the roof with new purlins to suit the correct span for the roof sheeting and the sheeting for the walls can be fix directly onto the existing plywood. Preformed flashings will match the sheeting. The doors will be clad and trimmed to match.
The volunteers are kept really busy around the park with normal jobs and therefore we are looking for funding to pay for a contractor to do the cladding in this case.
The pictures show the present state of the building and the envisaged look when it’s been clad. The renovation will improve the look of the building which at the moment is a bit of an eyesore.
Wythall Park provides the community with sports pitches (football, cricket, tennis, bowls, archery and Gaelic football), play areas for toddlers and older children, 4 acres of woods and paths to walk. This is all provided and looked after by the volunteers of Wythall Community Association, mainly from funds raised at the Bonfire and Carnival events in addition to membership fees from park users, which start at just £10 a year for Association membership.

Moment of Pride

The volunteers of WCA do an amazing job.
This project was previously submitted by one of those volunteers who we lost this year, Paul was regularly there for general maintenance and on many committees. It would be wonderful if we could complete this project for the volunteers that continue his work
