Funding level: £1,001 to £5,000

Description

We would like to apply for funding to cover the cost of a Residential Weekend for children and young people aged between 5 and 18 years who have been working with Mosaic's counsellors. The weekend takes place at Leeson House in Dorset and are an important aspect of the support which Mosaic offers and is more effective if both children and parents attend. The weekend gives children and young people the opportunity to meet others, share their experience, remember their special person and most importantly to have fun.

Upon arrival, they will be given a Mosaic hoodie and other goodies. They then meet others in their group and take part in a weekend of various activities. Everyone will stay overnight on the Saturday and the weekend will finish at 4pm on the Sunday.

After dropping their children at Leeson House, parents and carers will have the opportunity to meet with others who have had similar experiences. They can share concerns about their children and the ways that death of someone close can effect their emotions and behaviours.

So what about Mosaic? Now in their 10th year, Mosaic provide support to bereaved children, young people and their families throughout Dorset. Services provided include:

Individual and family group support both pre and post bereavement.
Telephone support for parents and families.
Training for professional and agencies working with children and young people.
Telephone support for schools and agencies.
Residential weekend programme for families.
Activity days.
Social events.

It is hoped that this application will be successful in achieving funding of £5,000 which would cover the cost of a Residential Weekend.

I first met with Margaret and David Hannibal just over ten years ago when the plans for Mosaic were in their infancy. To have been part of their journey over the past ten years as their Broker has been fantastic. The support they provide to bereaved children is so valuable.
