Community support

Funding level: £1,001 to £5,000

K6 Gallery is small arts organisation in Southampton with an exhibition space inside a pair of grade II listed red telephone boxes.

Established in 2015 we've programme quarterly exhibitions inside the phone boxes as well as offsite events and workshops in the local community.

We have a growing team of volunteers who help organise our events and exhibitions and would use this money to fund our ambitious 2018 programme that is currently being developed.

So far we've exhibited over 40 mainly local artists both in the phone boxes and across the city. We've organised a huge variety of creative activity in the city to enrich well-being and improve local neighbourhoods, from commissioned a mural and other public art projects to running community workshops and organising talks.

We want to do more of the same plus lots more. Some of the highlights for 2018 that we're currently developing include:
- an exhibition about the late Des Francis, a prominent apartheid campaigner and amateur photographer who settled in Southampton
- an exhibition across the local bus network
- a show of rare archival poems about Southampton by poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy

This funding would pay for volunteer expenses, and cover the cost of producing and promoting our exciting programme of events and exhibitions for 2018.

Moment of Pride

We've been able to use the most modest of spaces to bring a new lease of life to an otherwise derelict piece of national heritage. That has been the catalyst for us to grow as an organisation put on more and more events for the local community.
