Health and wellbeing

Funding level: Up to £1,000

Description

Harbour Cancer Support have been in our current location, at the Bus Station in Gosport, for the last 16 years but that building is being re-developed, and we have had to find a new home.

We would use a grant from yourselves to pay for carpet to renovate the new space for the charity. We have found the ideal location, and secured a lease for 2 Stokes Road, Gosport PO12 1JB.

The building needs converting - and we need help to make this into a first class facility for the benefit of those affected by cancer in South Hampshire.

We hope to be able to move into our new home by end of January 2018.

We want to be able to offer a tranquil, safe and comforting environment, to include counselling and complementary therapy rooms, space for people to meet, share experiences and take part in art therapy.

People used are services 1,386 times in the year to 31 March 2017, the majority of which are local people. We really want to keep our services running throughout the move, and also improve what we currently offer. We will have better ground floor access, more car parking for visitors, and more internal space. The local community, via users, Trustees and volunteers have been involved with the decision making process so far.

We are an independent local charity, providing emotional and practical support to anyone affected by any cancer. Services are offered free of charge to cancer patients, their carers, relatives and friends, for as long as they need it. We receive no core funding, and therefore rely heavily on fundraising, donations and grant income to support our services.
