Funding level: Up to £1,000

Norwich Dragons Hockey Club would like the opportunity to gain funding to purchase further much needed equipment for the protection of our junior and adult goalkeepers.

We are a rapidly expanding grassroots community, entirely volunteer driven club in a deprived area of Norwich, with boys and girls junior teams at under 8, under 10, under 12 and development level, together with 6 mens and 8 ladies teams. As a result we need a lot of goalkeeping kits!

In recent times we have had great success attracting both youngsters and adults into the sport of hockey and in particular we are having lots of players wishing to play in goal, which is fantastic. Inspired, in part, by Maddie Hinch and the GB ladies win in Rio!

The cost of a goalkeeping kit can be prohibitive to players considering this unique, yet critical team role and so as a club we aim to provide this equipment and opportunity to all interested. We were very fortunate to win £1000 from the Aviva Community Fund in 2016, but to give you some idea a new adult goalkeeping kit costs around £1000 and a Junior kit around £600, so ongoing fundraising is always required!
We remain in a situation of keepers ‘sharing kits’, meaning they are unable to train together. Much of the current kit is also damaged or old and smelly, so it is becoming essential to replace existing kit and add some additional items so new kits can be assembled.

As a club we always try to purchase goalkeeping kit in the most efficient way – buying good quality items second hand, items during sale periods and direct from the manufacturer. Any funding secured would be used in a similar way, utilising it to its maximum potential for all our junior and senior goalkeepers.

Moment of Pride

‘Proud to be a Dragon’ could not be a more accurate slogan for our club! The huge efforts that volunteer coaches and committee members invest in developing hockey and the club is truly amazing. We are a very welcoming club whose main aim is to get more people joining in and safely enjoying hockey.
