Description

LAKENHAM-HEWETT RFC is a Rugby Football Union (RFU) affiliated amateur rugby club based near Norwich City. We have a very proud history spanning over 52 years & are one of the few clubs in Norfolk that boast both Men's & Ladies' rugby for all ages from youth to adult. We currently have over 120 players & also many non-playing club members including RFU qualified coaches & volunteers who play a vital role in ensuring the existence of our club.

A VOTE FOR US MEANS THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO PROVIDE A SAFE TRAINING ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR RUGBY PLAYERS

We currently require funding to replace some of our equipment, especially tackle bags & shields which can cost up to £200 each. One size doesn’t fit all so we will be investing in both youth & adult equipment, which we will purchase from local Norfolk rugby equipment suppliers.

HERE IS WHAT OUR PLAYERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING EQUIPMENT

Chloe Travis & Rachel Grayson, Ladies’ Players
“The main thing about tackling is that you always need to give it 100% - the moment you start ducking out is when you can get hurt. In order to get to a stage where you feel confident to safely tackle somebody, we use tackle equipment in training so that we can repeatedly practice getting our technique right.”
“I [Rachel] only started playing rugby 2 months ago - thanks to my coaches’ guidance & the training equipment available, I am now at a point where I feel confident to safely tackle someone.”

Alex Morris & Emile Nieuwoudt, Men’s Players
“The scrum is the famous centre piece of any game - it’s really important that we know how to conduct it safely as inexperience can lead to injuries occurring.”
“Having funding available to maintain our scrum machine means that we can practice getting the correct position in training & thus feel more comfortable & safer during matches.”

OUR AIM IS TO PROMOTE RUGBY & FITNESS IN A FUN, FRIENDLY & SAFE PLAYING ENVIRONMENT

Given the physical element of rugby, player safety is extremely important to us. It is a priority of ours to ensure that our facilities & equipment meet our high safety standards. We also support our coaches & other volunteers in attaining the required RFU coaching qualifications & rugby safety knowledge. This includes learning about how to minimize the risk of injury & what to do when an injury does occur.

We encourage teamwork & positivity both on & off the pitch. As well as playing rugby, we are a very sociable group & our clubhouse is always a hive of activity after training & matches.

OUR CLUB WELCOMES EVERYONE THAT WISHES TO GIVE RUGBY A GO, REGARDLESS OF AGE, EXPERIENCE OR ABILITY

As well as participating in rugby union leagues & 7s tournaments, we also host many activities that are aimed at encouraging the community to come join our club. Throughout the summer months, we offer fun touch rugby for everyone aged 13 & older. This has proved to be a very popular free activity at our club, with the highlight of the year being our Annual Beer Festival Touch Rugby Tournament. For some people, touch rugby has been the stepping-stone towards playing contact rugby at our club.

We also run an extensive range of school activities at our club including tag rugby competitions, which we are proud to host. We believe that it is important to actively promote rugby in our community so that as many people as possible get the opportunity to try rugby.

WE WELCOME OUR COMMUNITY TO USE OUR FACILITIES

We share our facilities with other sports teams & local community groups, including an elderly society that meet three times a week at our clubhouse. We are proud that other community groups benefit from the use of our facilities too.

Please check out our video to hear from more of our club members about why we are proud of our club, our values & our commitment to ensuring player safety is to the fore each time we step on the pitch.

WE WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR VOTE TO HELP US KEEP RUGBY SAFE
