Health and wellbeing

Funding level: Up to £1,000

The Friendship Club is a link between Deanburn Primary School and the local community. They use the Old Kirk Church Hall as a meeting place. They meet weekly and the pupils from the EP(kids with learning difficulties) base in Deanburn Primary School run the club. Their role is to set up the hall, make the snack and provide the entertainment. Some weeks the children put on a performance, they dance together, read stories, play games and take part in arts and craft activities. They are now introducing day trips together and fundraiser such as community carol singing at Christmas. The aim of the group is for your children to develop their social skills, become more confident and make a positive contribution to their local community. The group also helps the elderly in our community become less isolated, gives them a space to meet, socialise and make new friends. The group has had a really positive impact for both the children and elderly . The children's communication skills have improved & they are becoming more independent.

Moment of Pride

My child who is 5 gets so excited when she knows that she is going to the group. She has only been attending the group for 3 weeks & I can see a difference in her. She now wants to help make dinner, set table & clean up. The teacher & helpers puts so much effort into running the club.
