Aythorpe Roding Cricket Club celebrates its 70th Anniversary in 2019 and currently runs teams playing in the T-Rippon Mid Essex League Premier Division and West Essex District Youth Leagues. Our ground is also hired to Old Chelmsfordians Cricket Club on alternate Saturdays of the cricket season and every Sunday to teams playing in the National Cricket League.

We are looking to celebrate our 70th anniversary by replacing our Sight Screens and practice nets.

The availability of Sight Screens at either end of the cricket pitch is an essential requirement both of the T-Rippon Mid Essex league for teams playing in the Premier Division and also for the tenants who hire the pitch from us.

Our existing screens - which were 20 years old - have been damaged beyond economic repair by high winds and require replacement prior to next season.

Failure to do so will mean we can no longer play in the T-Rippon Premier Division or provide a suitably safe environment for Old Chelmsfordians and the National Cricket League.

As such over 40 recreational cricketers will have no venue to play at every weekend of the cricket season and the resultant loss of revenue will see Aythorpe Roding Cricket Club become insolvent and have to close after over 60 years of providing a valuable community facility promoting health and wellbeing through recreational cricket

Furthermore, our cricket nets have suffered weathering, wear and tear and no longer provide a safe practice facility for adults or children.

To allow us to continue to provide training facilities to our adult members and guests and 100+ local children, we need to replace the netting on the existing cages prior to the 2019 season.

Particularly regrettable is that failure to do so will mean we have no choice but to close our colts section which provides a recreational facility keeping local boys and girls of all ages fit and healthy.

Funds are desperately needed therefore to allow 2019's 70th anniversary to be a celebration with revamped facilities rather than the termination of a local facility that has provided recreational facilities to promote activity, health and wellbeing for 70 years.

Moment of Pride

Aythorpe Roding CC has provided a fantastic community facility for almost 70 years offering active participation in recreational cricket to boys and girls of all ages as well as active adults and a spectator experience for those less active in a quiet village community where there is little to do.
