Health and wellbeing

Funding level: Up to £1,000

The school currently has a room that is under utilised during the school day. We would love to put secure storage in the room and give it a lick of paint to transform it into an area that can be used by the local community. We are aware of a number of community groups that are looking for a space to meet and by revamping the room we believe that we will be able to meet their needs. We are hoping to attract such groups as mums and tots, breastfeeding groups and music and art groups for pre-schoolers. Due to the nature of the houses in the school catchment area we have a lot of families moving into the area on a regular basis, by opening up the school to the local community we are hoping to offer a place for parents new to the area to meet others and form those neighbourly bonds.

The room has its own external access and kitchen facilities, meaning it is self-contained. The room is currently utilised for wraparound care only and part of the money would be used to create a new cupboard to securely store the toys and craft supplies that are used. The rest of the money will be used to redecorate and upgrade the facilities, such as the installation of a smart TV that can be plugged into a laptop to allow for presentations.

The Willen School Association exists to support the school and allow the children to have access to facilities and equipment that enhance their educational experience. This project will give the school access to an ongoing, additional income stream to help support the work that we do, as well as giving the community a much needed local meeting place.

Moment of Pride

As part of the local community we are really excited for the school to build community relationships. It takes a village to raise a child, and this project helps with that in two ways. It allows parents to meet others in similar situations and gain a support network and raise funds for the school.
