Health and wellbeing

Funding level: Up to £1,000

Description

Linden Bridge is an all through Special School for pupils with complex social communication needs including autism. As a school accommodated in an old 1970s building and oversubscribed we find ourselves having to be ever more creative to develop our spaces to enhance teaching and learning for our pupils.
The Wellbeing Sensory Courtyard Garden would create a beautiful green corridor at the center of our school for all to enjoy. It would provide a tranquil sheltered place for pupils to engage in outdoor learning, a calm space where children can relax or chat with each other or adults and to go for quiet time out from the demands of the day. It will also provide an opportunity for them to practice the vocational and life skills of gardening and learn about growing their own food to eat.
We are hoping to use the funding to purchase a large round picnic table and benches, some structural shrubs, plants, herbs and compost. We would also like to install a colour change water wall and some donated wind spinners. We are hoping for the project to be delivered by summer 2019.
The Wellbeing Sensory Courtyard Garden will be well used on a daily basis by our 131 pupils and almost 100 staff as well as other community groups over the weekends and in the school holidays.
We are hoping the community will enjoy this project for years to come!

Moment of Pride

We would like to involve our students in designing the project and in the planting and maintenance. Our pupils will also feel a sense of achievement and be able to demonstrate their numerous gifts, which we are so proud of!
