Funding level: £10,001 to £25,000

As a small charity we run a sports and community centre to provide affordable access to a community hall and sports facilities. The aim of our project is to fully refurbish our centre that serves Sutton-on-Trent and surrounding rural villages. The Charity has been working tirelessly over the last 10 years to raise enough funds to start the works. Plans are now in place to commence the works in early 2019 with the first phase being the full refurbishment of our hall, changing rooms, kitchens and toilets. Part of phase one will remove our reliance on oil fired heating and hot water as it is really inefficient. Over the last year we have also suffered badly from oil theft with the charity losing nearly £1000. Our plan is to replace the old oil system with an energy efficient and environmentally friendly Air Source Heat Pump system. We have already self-raised the funds to complete the first phase but are in desperate need of some help to complete the full project.

The second phase of our project will address the external fabric of our building and this is where we need financial support to make it happen. We’ve been advised that the current cladding of the building needs an upgrade for the new heating system to be viable. We plan to replace the mix of old wooden and metal cladding with energy efficient insulated cladding. If phase 2 can be delivered we will fully remove our need for oil. The upgrade of the exterior will also bring our tired looking building back to life.

The support of the Aviva Community Fund will mean the world to our rural community and small charity. Over a long period it has been a real struggle to attract funding but we really hope that our time is now. Our committee really hope that we can change the lives of local people by revitalising a community hub. In the process we aim to start our journey in providing a facility that becomes energy efficient but in time will hopefully become self-sufficient with renewable energy.

Our charity would love the support of the Aviva Community Fund as we believe the changes will provide us with a sound base for being environmentally friendly. It will also make a real difference to so many people of all ages, providing a great place for meeting up and participating in sport.

Sutton-on-Trent Sports & Community Centre

We are proud that our centre is a real focal point for the local community. Whether it be for kids participating in sport or the elderly attending the FALLS Group, the improvements will make our centre a nicer place for people to meet whilst making our building much more energy efficient
