Health and wellbeing

Funding level: Up to £1,000

The Es-SEN-tials community group was set up to fill a gap in the provision of help for parents and carers within the Broadland area when their child is diagnosed with Autism or other special needs. They help parents and carers get access to desperately needed information, help and support through family events and informational drop in sessions. The project is to run a series of events following on from a hugely successful event held in July, these sessions will be focussed on specific areas such as:
- Pets as Therapy
- Toilet Training
- Sleep Disturbances
Each session has an expert guest speaker and is organised in co-ordination with Norfolk Council, social services and other parent support groups. The pilot event focussed on School Transitions and was a huge benefit to those families that attended. The feedback received made it clear that more events are necessary to give parents the required tools and network to progress through key transition points and challenges in their family life. The funding would enable the organisation and delivery of these events, equipment needed to facilitate the day and engage the children attending as well as enabling outreach so that more families can benefit.

Moment of Pride

The feedback from the parents and carers that have already benefited from the support this group offer. Also seeing the children directly benefiting from the work they do makes me proud of what has been achieved so far and very hopeful for what they can do in the future.
